Friends, Interesting Facts about the Most Celebrated Sitcom PART 1

Friends is undoubtedly one of the most re-run shows of all time. Making its debut in 1999 and concluding in 2004, this NBC sitcom is one of the most celebrated television series of all time. In fact, the May 6th finale in 2004 was watched by 52.5 million Americans, putting it at number four for the most-watched series finale in television history. But the finale is far from over. Now, Friends will continue to be re-run on the WB, TBS, as well as NBC networks on a consistent basis. Thank god they won’t be ruining it with a movie. For all you Friends fanatics out there, here are some interesting facts about some very memorable episodes.

1. Episode: Five Steaks and an Eggplant: According to the script, Matt LeBlanc who plays Joey was supposed to answer the phone and say “Bob here!” when the phone rang. However, when he jumped for the phone he missed and fell which the editors chose to keep in.

2. Episode: Phoebe’s Husband: When Rachel is super jealous of Ross’s new girlfriend Julie she mocks her saying the lines, “Julie is so smart, Julie’s so special.” Jennifer Anniston actually originally added the line “Does she put on a cape and fight crimes at night?”

3. Episode: Baby on the Bus: Giovanni Ribisi eventually plays Phoebe’s long lost step brother. However, he first appeared in the first season as the guy who drops a condom in Phoebe’s guitar case.

4. Episode: After the Superbowl Pt 2: Marcel the monkey was played by two monkeys, Monkey and Katie who also played the monkey in “Outbreak.”

5. Episode: The Ultimate Fighting Champion: Billy Crystal and Robin Williams made a very funny guest appearance in this episode. It was all because they happened to be in town, in the neighborhood so the writers quickly threw them in after they agreed on making a short guest appearance.

6. Episode: Rachel’s New Dress: Josh who is Rachel’s new date in this episode is played by Matthew Perry’s real father.

7. Episode: In Vegas: This was the one and only time they had to take part of the Central Perk stage down because they needed part of the stage for Caesar’s Palace. During this episode Phoebe tells Joey his pin number which is 5639. Ironically, the numbers 5369 on the telephone spell out “Joey.”

8. Episode: After Vegas: To commemorate Courtney Cox’s real marriage to David Arquette, the entire cast is credited with Arquette after their names in the opening credits.
