I’m planning on buying a 50″ 1080P Plasma or LCD TV to wall mount 13′ from a floor to ceiling mirrored wall.?
My research finds that plasma is still the superior format at a better price, but I’m concerned about reflections from the mirror showing in the screen when playing. The room is in the shade all day, but we usually watch in the evening anyway. Which way should I go? If plasma, I understand Panasonic is the best. Any specific comments on particular models would be appreciated. Thanks!
You may want to reconsider getting a plasma.
If you will notice there are substantially fewer companies making plasma TVs these days. There is a good reason for this. While Plasma is less expensive and still handles black better, the plasma light source is non-renewable. Over time all TVs loose some of their brightness. On LCDs the bulbs can be replaced, on plasma it is lost forever. Plasmas are also heavier and more likely to have “burnt out pixels” due to the mechanism by which it provides light.
The salesmen in the store push plasma TVs because the likelihood that you will need to replace the TV is greater. Look more closely into this. I think you will see more evidence of what I am talking about.
